About Me

My Background

I am a special education teacher with more than 25 years in the field. I have co-taught in inclusive settings, have worked as the primary educator in self-contained classrooms and have worked hard to develop my skill set along the way. I have extensive experience working with students with Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD and Dyslexia. I strive for open collaboration at all times and insist that a student's family be involved every step of the way.

Lastly, I hold a unique perspective in that I am the parent of a child with significant developmental differences. I know what it is like to live in the world of special education. I See You and understand the struggles.

Ultimately, It is my goal to not only support the student to succeed, but to also help a family regain their optimism for their child's future.

My expertise

I am an Orton-Gillingham trained practitioner through the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA). I completed my Associate Level training in 2016, and also went on to complete the additional coursework for the Certified Level. I established my business Aspiring Learners, LLC in 2019 and have had the privilege of providing full-time Orton-Gillingham instruction throughout my local community, while reaching students far and wide through virtual instruction. It is my professional goal to one day become an AOG Fellow and to share my love of learning with other like minded instructors who are just beginning their journey.

In addition, I am certified in LiPS (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing), Project Read, and several other evidence-based programs. I also have extensive knowledge of the Social Thinking curriculum, behavior management strategies, and differentiated instruction.

Lastly, I intentionally draw upon my extensive professional and personal experience to design lessons that are not only academically rigorous but also engaging and motivating for each unique student.

My Philosophy

I feel that developing a relationship with a student is integral to an effective instructional experience. Students should see and feel the value of their time with an instructor. This buy-in then allows the student to fully immerse themselves in the instruction. My goal is not only to assist a student in developing key academic gains, but also to help them become flexible learners, establish a growth mindset regarding the many ways one can show achievement, and ultimately,
move forward with confidence.

Contact Me

Every student has individual learning styles and unique educational needs. My strength is to meet the child where they are at, and to partner with them to reach their fullest potential.
